Our ancestors, and spiritual leaders had resisted by keeping their beliefs and knowledge, including languages, architecture, astronomy, mathematics and spirituality practice among all descendants. Their cultural survival skills last more than five hundred years under despotic governments those with permanent intention to destroy the indigenous social life style. Even though suffer repression under the dominant society we still alive and strong pride that motivates us to preserve our culture for the future generations.

The Mayan living in Guatemala are millions, those with genetic tied as well mestizos with mix blood: Mayan and white descendants. Among them are spiritual leaders Ajq’ijab or Mayan priests those still practicing the Mayan life style in their communities.

The Guatemalan dominant society use Mayan descendants as visitor display. Those practices are cultural discrimination under the Guatemalan government, however, they promoting it. Thereby, saying it, sometime we receive threats from unknown source. Including, Mr. Cirilo Perez, ambassador post of Indigenous under President Alvaro Colom, said those close tied to present administration hate us, relating to indigenous people.   

We know we face all those bias under despotic government since while, however, we continuing with our goals to save wisdom to generation to come.

The Mayan People Ajq’ijab’ Great Confederation of Guatemala

Is an umbrella of 96 community base organizations working with men and women toward keeping elders knowledge of shamans, timekeepers, midwifes and musicians. Their skills have being as medicine man as well teaching youths throughout Mayan life style.

They hope works toward social work development including economic and political activities demanding the indigenous rights. Currently they are not receiving any economic assistance from the Guatemalan government.

They seek economic assistance from organizations those believe on indigenous rights movements. We look support on projects of health, food, social work, and political development.
